Your kitchen is the place to learn about nutrition, explore science, math, and reading concepts and have fun doing it together.

Directions: On a grocery-shopping trip, plan to purchase a pancake mix to prepare later. Some factors to consider include cost, weight and quality. Which costs the most? The least? Which mix would your family like the best? Do you need to purchase additional ingredients listed and the package directions?

    1. Get ready to make Pancake Pictures. Assemble the materials.

    2. Heat and grease the griddle. Discuss the directions and prepare the mix according to package directions.

    3. Spoon the batter onto the griddle to form simple pictures. You may want to try smiley faces, geometric figures, animal shapes, or abstract lines. Be creative Let brown a few minutes then pour enough batter over the picture to cover. Brown as usual, then turn. The picture should be on the topside now. Finish cooking on that side.

    4. Remove to plate and garnish to taste.
