· From the Desktop Click Start

· Click on Help

· Select Help Topics

· Click on Contents tab

· Click on ? to display information on selected topic

· Click the close box to exit Help

To set the clock

· Right click on the clock or time (lower right of screen)

· Select Adjust Date/Time

· Pick the Month from the drop down list

· Click on the Day

· Click on the Hour, Minute or Second to select, then either adjust with the arrow or type the correct value

· Click Apply to restart the clock

To change settings (adjust keys, display, mouse, and sounds)

· Click Start

· Move to right and click Control Panel

· Select the desired tab and make adjustments

To open the Start menu

· Click the Start button

To close the Start menu

· Click outside the Start menu

To move icons on the desktop

· Position the mouse pointer so that it pints to the icon you want to move

· Drag the pointer to a new position

To open a window

· Position the mouse so that it points to the icon you want to open

· Double-click the mouse button

To Close a window

· Click the close box (box with X on upper right of window)

To restart Windows 95

· Click the Start button

· From the Start menu, choose Shut Down

· In the Shut Dow Windows dialog box, select the Restart the Computer option. · Select Yes

To shut down Windows 95

· Click the Start Button

· From the Start menu, choose Shut Down

· In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, select shut down the computer option · Choose yes

To move a window

· Position the mouse pointer over the title bar of the window

· Drag the title bar to a new location on the desktop

To maximize a window

· Click the maximize button (located in upper right of the window, center box)

To minimize a window

· Click the minimize button (located in the upper right of the window, third box from the left

To resize a window

· Position the mouse pointer on the border of the window

· When the pointer changes to a double arrow, drag the border

To scroll the contents of a window by using the scroll arrows

· Position the mouse pointer on the scroll arrow

· Click the mouse button to move line by line

To scroll the contents of window by using the scroll box

· Position the mouse pointer on the scroll box

· Drag the scroll box along the scroll bar until you are at the desired location

To use menu commands

· Position the mouse pointer on the menu name

· Click the mouse button

· Position the mouse pointer on the command, and click the mouse button

To close menus

· Position the mouse pointer outside the menu and click the mouse button or press ESC

To select option buttons, check boxes, or list boxes

· Click the desired button or click in the box to select or deselect it

To select from a drop-down list box

· Click the arrow on the right side of the box · Select you option

To exit any dialog box

· Click the cancel button

To view drive contents in My Computer

· Double-click My Computer

· Double-click the desired drive (A for floppy drive or C for hard drive)

To view folder contents in My Computer

· Double-click My Computer

· Double-click the desired folder icon

To change view options

· From view menu, choose desired view (by icons, list, or details)

To use a toolbar

· Select View menu

· Select Toolbar

· Click the desired Toolbar

To create a new folder

· Open the window in which you want to create the new folder

· In this window, go to the File menu, choose New

· From the New menu move to the right and choose Folder

· Type the folder's name

· Press Enter

To delete a folder

· Select the folder icon

· From the File menu, choose Delete or press the DELETE key

· (make sure you want to destroy all contents of the folder)

To rename a file or folder

· Right-click the file or folder to be renamed

· Choose Rename from the shortcut menu

· Type the new name

· Press ENTER

To copy and move files

· Open the window containing the files to be copied or moved

· Use the right mouse button and drag the file icon to the new folder or drive icon

· From the shortcut menu, choose Move Here or Copy Here

To format floppy diskettes using My Computer

· Insert the floppy disk to be formatted in the disk drive

· In the My computer window select the floppy disk

· From the File menu choose Format

· In the Format dialog box, select the disk capacity and format type. (1.44 is the most common disk capacity)

· Choose start

· Choose close when process completed

To expand a level in Explorer

· Click the + sign next to the folder icon

To collapse a level in Explorer

· Click the - sign next to the folder icon

To undo an action

· From the Edit menu, choose Undo or click the Undo button on the Toolbar

To restore a file from the Recycle bin

· Double-click the Recycle Bin icon

· Select the item to restore

· Drag the deleted item to the desired location

To empty the Recycle Bin

· From the File menu, choose Empty Recycle Bin

· Choose Yes
