About the Midwest LINCS The Midwest LINCS, operating out of the Ohio Literacy Resource Center, Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, provides a link to national, regional, and state-specific resource material for adult literacy practitioners and students. Web sites have been developed for each state literacy resource center in the twelve Midwest states--Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Each state's web site links with resources within the state as well as provides links to all adult literacy resources nationally. Each state is standardizing the collection and organization of new literacy information and resources--especially unpublished material--that will increase the literacy knowledge base. In addition, the Midwest state literacy resource centers provide training and assistance in accessing the Internet information to adult literacy practitioners and students in their states. The Midwest LINCS is funded through a grant from the National Institute for Literacy to the Ohio Literacy Resource Center. Midwest LINCS is one of four regional technology hubs (the Ohio Literacy Resource Center, the Tennessee Literacy Resource Center at the Center for Literacy Studies, the New England Literacy Resource Center and the California State Literacy Resource Center) which will eventually link all the adult literacy resources in the nation with the practitioners and students who can use them. The National Institute for Literacy is funding the regional technology hubs as an expansion of their existing LINCS (Literacy Information aNd Communication System). The Ohio Literacy Resource Center coordinates the Midwest LINCS project and provides equipment, training, and technical assistance to the other states for the project. In addition, each state is working with local adult literacy programs to conduct technology projects to demonstrate the usage of the information in the Internet.
