Backing up the Database

Click the Start button to begin the ABLELink backup procedure. This may take some time depending on the size of your database.
When the procedure is completed, the status bar below the Start button will read Backup Database Completed. You will then have a file within your C:\ABLELink2011 folder which will be similar to this:
| ABLERMDB_2011 | means this database contains student data from 2011 |
| 01272011 | is the date the backup was processed (ie. January 27th, 2011) |
| BKUP.MDB | is to designate this is a backup of the ABLERMDB_2011.MDB file |
Backing up your database on a regular basis is encouraged.
You should backup whenever you have entered in a number of students that you would not wish to re-enter at a later date should something unforeseen happen.
Also, you should backup before any major procedures (importing satellite site data or updating the ABLELink program, for example).
Power outages, hard-drive crashes and accidental program deletions were among the most reported reasons for data loss.
Backing up to a external backup media ie. DVD, External Hard Drive, etc. is highly suggested.
If you backup to just your hard drive and your hard drive crashes, you will have to start fresh and re-enter all students again. Please back up on a regular basis and back up to an external source also.
Backing up is a simple process and you should practice it regularly!
