Updating Assessment Information

In ABLELink 2007 a new procedure was added which will update all levels and student achievement from Progress data that has already been entered. Prior to running this procedure, programs should refer to a new report, “Progress Records with Zero Levels”, to examine students’ Progress records that have been entered without a level for some reason. Reasons for this could include an incomplete record (student has only taken the locator), no scales scores, or progress records that are tracking a subject other than the default subject.

**The Update Achievement procedure will not calculate achievement for students with Progress records with zero levels.*

Please use the following directions to update and calculate your student achievement based on the progress records that have been entered.

Reconciling Progress Records with Zero Levels

  1. Open ABLELink2008 from the short cut on your desktop.
  2. From the Main Menu, Open the  Report MenuMain Menu report Menu button
  3. Choose "Progress Records With Zero Levels" Progress levels with zero levels on the report menu
  4. Students on this report have a Progress records with a level = 0 Immage of students on the zero level report
  5. Examine Students’ Progress records that have been entered without a level for incomplete data entry, missing scale scores, or progress records that are tracking a subject other than the default subject and make any additions or corrections that are necessary.

  1. The report should be re-opened after making changes to progress records, running the Update Achievement procedure as directed below and “fixed” students will not be on the report. Exceptions would be students who only have locator scores and are still attending or have assessments in subjects other than what ABLELink assigns as the default subject. If the student is being tracked in a different subject, “Manual” should be chosen as the Tracking Method and then the assessment and subject to be used for tracking should be assigned.

** The Update Achievement procedure will not calculate achievement for students with Progress records with zero levels. **

Running the Update Achievement Procedure

  1. Select the Update Achievement button from the Main Menu.Main menu update Achievement Button
  1. The Update Achievement Form Window will open.

  1. ABLELink will begin to update the progress level and assessment information for each student record.

**If you get an error (Error:94-Invalid use of Null), contact Tech Support for assistance.**

  1. An Update Complete window will appear when all records have been updated

  1. Click OK to complete the update process.
  2. Close out of ABLELink.
  3. Open ABLELink 2008 from the shortcut on your desktop. The assessment records will be updated and the correct levels should be displayed for each student.

NOTE: The Update Achievement Procedure is designed to handle the one time transition from ABLELink2007.01 to ABLELink2007.02 and the associated recalculation of progress levels and student achievement. It can be used as many times as needed to reconcile your student’s levels and achievement and should be re-ran after making changes to the students on the “Progress Records with Zero Levels” report.

To be succinct, the suggested routine would be:

  1. View the “Progress Records with Zero Levels” report and determine if the associated Progress records need to be appended/changed/deleted or if they are fine.
  2. Make any changes necessary.
  3. Run the Update Achievement procedure to re-assign levels.
  4. View the “Progress Records with Zero Levels” report and determine if the associated Progress records need to be appended/changed/deleted or if they are fine.
  5. Make any changes necessary.
  6. Continue until you are certain that every student listed on the  “Progress Records With Zero Levels” report belongs there.

** The Update Achievement procedure will not calculate achievement for students with Progress records with zero levels. **

It will not be necessary to re-run this procedure each time you enter progress scores.
