Backing up the Database

Select Backup Database from the Main Menu
Back up in 2009

Click the Start button to begin the ABLELink back up procedure. This may take some time depending on the size of your database. When the procedure is completed, the status bar below the Start button will read Backup Database Completed. You will then have a file within your C:\ABLELink2009 folder which will be similar to this:

Backing up your database on a regular basis is encouraged.

You should back up whenever you have entered in a number of students that you would not wish to re-enter at a later date should something unforeseen happen.

Also, you should back up before any major procedures (importing minor site data or updating the ABLELink program, for example).

Power outages, hard-drive crashes and accidental program deletions were among the most reported reasons for data loss. Backing up to a external backup media ie. zip disk/ jazz disk/ USB memory key is highly suggested. If you back up to just your hard drive and your hard drive crashes, you will have to start fresh and re-enter all students again. Please back up on a regular basis and back up to an external source also.
Backing up is a simple process and you should practice it regularly!
