Adult Educators and Colleges:
Establishing a Partnership to Promote Transition to College

  1. Higher Ed educators who are probably experiencing many adult nontraditional students in their classes need to be trained regarding adult learning styles. Adults are often experiential learners and have different motivations for attending school than do most traditional students. Also adults need to realize that their life experience counts for a great deal. Educators need to realize this too. Try offering a class like Adults as Learner. Having students learn how they learn would be the goal. Perhaps something similar could be offered for educators. Please let me know your thoughts. 2. I agree with your article. Our population is changing but we are not prepared. Why not have students meet and tell you what they want, like a focus group. And not just once -keep them going. Elizabeth
