1. When I give the students an assignment to write about. I tell them that the first draft is for the content. They do not have to worry about spelling the first time around.
I don't correct their writing for grammar, spelling or sentence structure the first time around. Only after they tell me that they have gotten down what they wanted to say do I correct their writing.

2. I never make any marks or negative comments on the student's writing. I remember too clearly how I felt when anyone wrote on my paper.
