I provide examples with pictures and lots of models. We discuss the picture then I have the student finish sentences I've started. For example, I say : "Mark went out to shovel the sidewalk. Meanwhile, ___." . This doesn't take much time. For those words like "meanwhile" that are trickily abstract, I will keep practicing & reviewing it. We then discuss what that means or draw a picture of what it means.
