Project IDEAL in Ohio

Since September 2002, The Ohio Literacy Resource Center (OLRC) http://literacy.kent.edu/ in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Education (ODE), Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) office http://www.ode.state.oh.us/ctae/adult/ABLE/ and the Ohio Literacy Network (OLN) http://www.ohioliteracynetwork.org/, have worked with seven ABLE-funded sites in establishing, developing, and implementing, a distance-learning environment utilizing GED Connection and Skills Tutor Curriculum as part of Project IDEAL. Project IDEAL is a national Distance Learning project working with a consortium of states to develop effective Distance Education Programs for adult learners.

For Fiscal year 2006, five of the seven Ohio ABLE funded IDEAL pilot sites will serve as Distance Learning Hubs (DLHs). This initiative will create a Distance Learning Partnership with several ABLE Programs, also known as Referring Programs (RPs). This collaboration will allow Ohio to continue exploring ways to deliver ABLE instruction at a distance through its continued participation in the national Distance Education Project, Project IDEAL.
