Exiting Students FAQ
1. If a student exits the program and has, for example, accumulated nine hours of program service and then returns to the program, can those nine hours count toward his/her 12 hours for enrollment?
Answer: Yes. As long as he/she reenters the program within the same program year. If he/she waits until the next program year to begin attending again, the slate is wiped clean. Each program/grant year is accountable for itself.
2. How long should we wait to exit a student after he/she stops attending?
Answer: Ninety calendar days from the last date the student attended. If the student indicates, however, that he/she will be returning, do not exit the student.
3. If a student re-registers in the program after he/she was exited, does he/she become a different student toward our cumulative enrollment?
Answer: No. Students may not be duplicated toward the cumulative enrollment count within the same program year.
4. Are all students exited at the end of the program year?
Answer: No. Only students who are enrolled (completed 12 or more hours) must
have a completed exit form entered into ABLELink. All returning students
would be considered new students for the next program year and would need to
accumulate 12 hours of service to be counted as an enrollee in the following
year.
5. Will we be able to enter re-enrolled students into ABLELink who had been exited within the same program year?
Answer: Yes.
6. Does "remained employed in the third quarter mean at 6 months and 1 day or 9 months?"
Answer: Please see response to follow-up item #2.
7. When should programs exit students?
Answer: When instruction ends, when the learner terminates, or when the
student has not received instruction for 90 calendar days and is not
scheduled to receive further instruction.
8. How do you get exit progress results when you can't locate an individual.
Answer: The state office recognizes that it can be quite difficult to locate students once they have left the program. For this reason, the state has developed the Uniform Portfolio System so that in such cases, the program will be able to use the students portfolio submissions to gauge advancement or progress within a level.
9. If a student attends less than 12 hours, do we complete an exit form?
Answer: No. Do not complete an Exit Form on non-enrolled participants.
10. Ninety days - is it seat time or calendar time?
Answer: Calendar days.
