Family Literacy FAQ

1. On pages 19-21 of the State Plan #4, parts a & b , the goal is for certain % of the family literacy parent participants to do something. This assumes all family literacy students will pick this as a secondary goal. Perhaps it should be stated like #2 a (% of students with this as a goal.)
Answer: The Family Literacy Minimum Performance Level wording on pages 20-21 has been changed to read, "75 Percent of family literacy participants with this as a secondary goal will increase activities by 10%."

2. Does a family literacy student have to choose the last two goals?
Answer: No. Either of the two optional Ohio Measures re: Family Literacy, identified on the Student Registration Form in the number 13 (Optional) Secondary Goals, may be selected by any Ohio student, as a legitimate secondary goal, but is not a "required" goal for students participating in Ohio ABLE Family Literacy Programs. These goals will be tracked in ABLELink only if Program Type of Family Literacy is checked on Student Registration Form.
ABLE programs may either offer Family Literacy-related activities to help these students achieve this goal, or comprehensive Family Literacy Program services to assist these students.

3. Is there going to be a specific family literacy assessment tool for these secondary family literacy measurers?
Answer: Yes. A committee of family literacy professionals is working on such an assessment tool. This assessment is expected to be ready for distribution and training by the end of August 2000.

4. Is it acceptable if a program doesn't offer a family literacy program but does offer some family literacy activities?
Answer: Yes, however, the program would not bubble-in "Family Literacy" as the program type on the Student Registration Form.
