NEGATIVE CONTRACTIONS

The Verb To Be

What is a contraction? A contraction is a short way of speaking and writing English. Contractions are used with informal writing and speaking. They are used when writing to a friend or relative, but are not used in a letter to your boss or in a school report. Contractions use an apostrophe (') to indicate missing letters. Negative contractions can sometimes be written two different ways. The pronoun and the verb can be a contraction or the verb and the not.
