The need for the journal was initiated because the program review procedure discussed at the Fall, 1995 business meeting revealed that ALD members believed practitioners in the field of adult literacy were underserved.

The ALD homepage was created and the Spring, 1996 ALD newsletter was placed online. This issue included a questionnaire on the planned journal and asked for nominations and volunteers for editorial board and reviewers.

In the Spring of 1996 an editorial board was formed. Members were: Nancy Boraks, Laurie Elish-Piper, Nancy Padak, Gary Padak and Linda Thistlethwaite. The editorial board developed journal submission and review procedures. These were placed online in the Summer of 1996.

The goal is to include interactive features to encourage reader involvement and to monitor how effectively we do serve our intended audience - so please talk back to us. Our success depends on the quality of articles and our ability to disseminate the journal in electronic form. If you have ideas about dissemination or are able to add a link to the journal to your own homepage or home site please contact an editorial board member today or respond to this request on the ALD Web site.
