The Council on Foundations, an association of foundations and corporations, serves the public good
by promoting and enhancing effective and responsible philanthropy.
The Foundation Center is an independent nonprofit information clearinghouse established
in 1956. The Center's mission is to foster public understanding of the foundation field by
collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating information on foundations,
corporate giving, and related subjects. The audiences that call on the Center's
resources include grantseekers, grantmakers, researchers, policymakers, the media,
and the general public.
We have created this guide in order to help administrators and employees of nonprofit, public service
organizations easily locate relevant information on the Internet. We have worked in conjunction with Metro Detroit Comnet, a consortium of nonprofit social service organizations in metropolitan Detroit, in order to help identify the topics that would be useful to their member organizations.
Many grantwriters today are beginning to feel the pull of the Internet as they seek new and innovative ways to find out about grant opportunities and the grantwriting process. A community of grantwriters and professionals in the nonprofit sector, stretched across North America - and the world - is forming on the Internet with a collaborative, cooperative spirit. One day soon, using the Internet will probably be the definitive method for grant seekers.
The National Society of Fund Raising Executives (NSFRE), an
individual member association, advances philanthropy through education, training
and advocacy based on research and a Code of Ethical Principles and Standards of
Professional Practice. NSFRE members and affiliates enable people and organizations
to better serve diverse communities and Society as a whole.
The Pew Charitable Trusts, based in Philadelphia, are a national philanthropy established
48 years ago. Through our grantmaking, we seek to encourage individual development
and personal achievement, cross-disciplinary problem solving and innovative, practical
approaches to meeting the changing needs of a global community.
The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation that supports the efforts of
Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through
international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs.
Hoover's, Inc. is a seven-year-old business information company located in
Austin, Texas. We distribute our information through a wide variety of online
media (see Hoover's Content Online) and we produce about two dozen popular
business reference books and software products a year and distribute more
than one hundred other business books and software titles.
We want to give people in our communities the tools and means to
improve their lives and achieve their goals. Our top priority is education. And our main
emphasis is on the creative use of computers and communications to make dramatic
improvements in the way teachers teach and students learn.
Women in Literacy/USA is the U.S. component of the global campaign. WIL/USA began in 1994 and hopes to reach 100,000 women by the year 2000. It awards direct GRANTS annually to grassroots organizations that combine a focus on women and community action with literacy or English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction.
