Stories of Adult Learners’ Paths to Reading – The Search for Wholeness through Literacy
Authored By: Dr. Johannah D. Baugher, Ed.D.
Introduction
This manuscript offers individual, biographical narratives of adult learners’ paths to reading. In the pages that follow, individual stories are shared outlining a range of factors that denied these adult persons access to literacy. Lifelines that led them to acquiring this skillset later in life will also be shared. Please note that pseudonyms are used to protect persons’ identities, as direct quotations from these individual conversations are included in the excerpts that follow. It is only through the sharing of these raw and authentic stories that others may gain a new and informed perspective on the shackling effects of low literacy among adult learners.
