Instructional Planning

Good instruction requires good planning. The resources in this section can be used to help with that planning.

  • The Thematic Collections are lists of books on specific topics. A few examples of the topics are Weather, the Civil Rights Movement, and Ohio History. These lists include additional information about each book so teachers can create smaller text sets or use them for thematic units.
  • The Articles provide information about using trade books for instructional purposes in adult literacy classrooms.
  • The teaching ideas are detailed instructional suggestions for several of the Recommended Trade Books and have been field-tested in adult literacy classrooms.

These planning resources can be used with the trade books and the Teaching and Learning Strategies to create Lessons for adult literacy students at all instructional levels. In addition to the Eureka! resources, Ohio teachers can use the Ohio ABE/ASE Content Standards in their planning.
